  11. ## Supported Hardware
  12. Here is list of hardware I happen to stumble uppon in combination
  13. with MikroTik. Since MikroTik's Wiki is a bit out-of-sync with time,
  14. I hope you find this usefull, even it's more like a bits.
  15.
  16. Please note, that some hardware has been tested only with ROS 3.x
  17. and then updated to 4.x in the field. Thus if eg. non-functional IDE
  18. in ROS 3.x doesn't imply same state in ROS 4.x. I just didn't test
  19. it anymore. Updates are always welcome!
  20.
  21. Oh, and of course - I guarantee nothing.
  22.
  23. ---! GIGABYTE M52L-S3P !---
  24. * scAM2+
  25. * nForce 520LE,
  26. * PCIe x16 :: 1 slot,
  27. * PCIe x1 :: 2 slots,
  28. * PCI :: 4 slots,
  29. * DDR2 1066 :: 4 slots,
  30. * SATA II RAID 2 ports,
  31. * IDE :: 1 port,
  32. * USB2.0 :: 4 ports,
  33. * LAN Gbit,
  34. * ATX,
  35. * 7ch audio,
  36.
  37. Everything seems to be supported in MikroTik. Boot from IDE works
  38. as well as boot from USB flash drive. I assume SATA works as well.
  39. LAN also works.
  40.
  41. Tested with RouterOS 3.x and [somewhat] 4.x
  42. ----------
  43.
  44. ---! GIGABYTE P43-ES3G !---
  45. * sc775
  46. * P43/ ICH10,
  47. * DDR2 1200 :: 4 slots,
  48. * PCIe x16 :: 1 slot,
  49. * PCIe x1 :: 1 slot,
  50. * PCI :: 5 slots,
  51. * SATA II :: 6 ports,
  52. * IDE :: 1 port,
  53. * USB2.0,
  54. * GLAN,
  55. * ATX,
  56. * 8ch audio,
  57.
  58. Excellent motherboard, although support in MikroTik is somewhat low.
  59. IDE is visible, but it's not possible to boot from. SATA might work.
  60. USB flash drive boot works like a charm, and it's just fine.
  61. LAN doesn't work, although is visible.
  62.
  63. Disadvantages of this motherboard are you can't turn-off IDE,
  64. because it is dependent on SATA controller.
  65. Another thing is latencies go sky-rocket under load. I think it
  66. might be caused by SMP (we've bought Dual-Celeron). This yet have to
  67. be tested. So far it's unresolved. I've found similar post in
  68. MikroTik's forums. It also looks like queue issue rather than
  69. hardware one.
  70.
  71. Tested with RouterOS 3.x and 4.x.
  72.
  73. 2009/Dec/10: I've replaced this mobo with M52L-S3P. Disabling SMP is
  74. probably very bad idea. After doing this, MT was unable to see one
  75. of four atheros cards. This looked like an IRQ conflict with 3Com
  76. card. I gave up after an ~hour of experimenting and replaced it with
  77. another hardware. Motherboard runs just fine with GNU/Linux except
  78. Realtek LAN on-board.
  79. ----------
  80.
  81. ---! MSI K8T Neo2 v1.0 !---
  82. * sc939
  83. * VIA KT800 Pro
  84. * 4 x DIMM DDR-1
  85. * 1 x AGP 8x
  86. * 5 x PCI
  87. * 2 x UDMA/133/100/66
  88. * 1 x IDE RAID
  89. * 1 x FDD
  90. * 4 x SATA
  91. * 8 x USB 2.0 (Total)
  92.
  93. * 1 x Parallel, 1 x Serial
  94. * 1 x PS/2 Keyboard, 1 x PS/2 Mouse
  95. * 7 x Audio I/O
  96. * 2 x IEEE1394
  97. * 4 x USB 2.0, 1 x RJ-45 Port
  98.
  99. Everything should work in RouterOS 3.x and 4.x including LAN and
  100. booting from IDE. I haven't tested SATA and USB flash disk boot.
  101.
  102. Please note, you won't fit ATX2.1, ATX2.2 or ATX2.3 into this
  103. motherboard. Reason are capacitors placed next to the connector
  104. which makes it impossible.
  105. ----------
  106.
  107. ---! i855GMEm-LFS !---
  108. * sc479 400MHz FSB only
  109. * Intel 855GME/ICH4-M
  110. * 2 x DIMM DDR-1
  111. * 1 x AGP 4x
  112. * 3 x PCI
  113. * 2 x UDMA/133/100/66
  114. * 2 x SATA 1.5GB/s [Promise 0+1]
  115. * 1 x FDD
  116. * 4 x USB 2.0
  117. * 1 x IEEE1394
  118.
  119. * 1 x VGA
  120. * 1 x Audio I/O
  121. * 1 x PS/2 Keyboard, 1 x PS/2 Mouse
  122. * 2 x RS232
  123. * 2 x LAN Marvell 88E8001 10/100/1000Mbit
  124. * 4 x USB 2.0
  125.
  126. Great and reliable motherboard. I don't know what else to add
  127. except it's a shame they don't make such motherboards anymore.
  128. It also has integrated VGA card, dual 1Gbit LAN,...
  129. Only disadvantage is this motherboard supports only CPU
  130. with 400MHz FSB.
  131. Almost everything can be turned-off in BIOS [separately!] thus
  132. saving precious IRQ for cards.
  133.
  134. Tested with RouterOS 3.x and 4.x
  135. It works just fine, so far.
  136. ----------
  137.
  138. ---! i915Ga-HFS !---
  139. * sc479 400/500MHz FSB
  140. * Intel 915G/ICH6
  141. * 4 x DIMM DDR-2
  142. * 1 x PCIe 16x
  143. * 1 x PCIe 1x
  144. * 3 x PCI
  145. * 1 x UDMA/133/100/66
  146. * 4 x SATA
  147. * 1 x FDD
  148. * 4 x USB 2.0
  149. * 2 x RS232
  150. * 1 x Parallel
  151.
  152. * 1 x VGA/DVI/HDMI/many various
  153. * 1 x LAN Marvell 88E8053 10/100/1000Mbit
  154. * 1 x Audio
  155.
  156. This motherboard works and everything on it.
  157. Booting from ATA works for sure. Booting from USB should also work,
  158. but I haven't tested it.
  159. LAN works without problems.
  160. BIOS allows you to disable almost everything as you need, thus
  161. saving IRQs. Tip: don't forget to disable IDE2 which you won't need
  162. at all because it's not present on-board! 1 extra IRQ right there :)
  163.
  164. Supported CPUs are mostly Dothans, yet motherboard supports Celerons
  165. and old/first Pentium-M as well. Please, see manual.
  166.
  167. Too bad keyboard I/O died otherwise I'd have chance to test it in
  168. the field. i855GMEm-LFS too its place, at least for the time.
  169.
  170. 10/Jan/06 - On-board LAN Marvell 88E8053 proven itself to be
  171. troublesome under GNU/Linux. I don't know how about in ROS, but it's
  172. better to be off this NIC. I've read problems come from sloppy
  173. design to bad firmware, but - who knows.
  174.
  175. Tested with RouterOS 3.x and 4.4.
  176. Not tested in the field.
